T1.2 Instructional Technology

Based on Seels and Richie’s idea (1994),

“Instructional technology is the theory and practice of design, development, utilization, management and evaluation of processes and resources for learning”.

  • Here, theory refers to concepts, constructs, principles and propositions that serve as the body of knowledge.
  • Practice is coined as the application of that knowledge to solve problems and also contribute to the knowledge base through the information gained from experience.

The knowledge base is divided by five interrelated fields (domains) such as

  • design
  • development
  • utilization
  • management and
  • evaluation.

The relationship between all these elements are not linear but synergetic where each domain also contributed to other domains, as well as to theory and practice, which in turn is shared by all other domains.

Let’s turn to page T1.2 Domains of Ed. Tech for further details.
